Perhaps every self-respecting country should have its own famous Opera and ballet theater. There is a Grand Opera in France, La Scala Theater in Italy, Vienna Opera in Austria and the Royal Covent Garden Theater in the UK. The Royal Opera house is the largest Opera house in England. It is named after the area of London in which it is located. The theater was founded in 1732.  At first, it was a drama theater. The first Opera to be staged was the “Faithful shepherd”.

The building suffered from fires in 1808 and 1856, a new grandiose building of white stone was built by architecture E. Bury in 1858. Before opening its doors in 2000 to the audience and ballet companies performing here, the theater was under restoration for 2 years. During this time, a second auditorium and new rehearsal rooms were built. The theater is decorated with a monumental stained-glass, made by N. Foster. Unlike the London Coliseum, where all operas are performed in English, here everything is performed in the language in which the Opera was written.
